See? I told you so….

ABC News gets it right once again…the actors above are all Caucasians cast in minority movie roles. We’re not talking about fictional roles that could go either way–we’re talking about based-on-real-life stories where key persons were of color. I first blogged about this on my old website just before “21” hit the theaters; in “21,” principal roles that were Asian in real life went to white actors. But this is happening to black roles as well. In the interest of profits, Hollywood is casting a bankable white star instead of a lesser-known but talented minority actor. Sometimes, they are done up to look more “ethnic.” You can say what you want about artistic license, and how everyone needs to make money, yadda yadda. But I still think it’s wrong in principle. I am all for the best actors getting the role, and there are many white actors who are great. But the vast majority of movie and TV roles are already written for them. Real-life characters should be portrayed by a same-race actor. My two cents, for what it’s worth.

  1. yeah it sucks, it’s quite ridiculous really…. there is no need to change the ethnicity of the actor, a good story made well will sell
